Construction to Begin on Korean Legation Museum in Washington, DC

Posted on

We are excited to announce that construction will soon be underway for the renovation of the historic Korean Legation Museum, located in the center of the Logan Circle Historic District in Washington, DC.

The three-story residential building fronting Logan Circle was owned by the Korean government in the late 1800s during the Joseon Dynasty under King Gojong. The U.S. and Korea established its first friendship treaty in 1882, and this building housed the Korean Legation for 16 years, serving as a cradle for the friendship between the Korean and U.S. governments.

The South Korean government intends to restore the interior and exterior of the building to display to visitors how the friendship between the U.S. and Korea was established during the Joseon Dynasty, and how it has developed over the years.

Our firm is working with the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation, providing design and owner’s representation services to restore the historic building to a museum, displaying artifacts, pictures, and traditional Korean cultural displays. Our firm is working in conjunction with Korean architectural firm GS Architects on this important project. The building will undergo a significant architectural renovation to be restored to its original interior dating back to the late 1800’s, with completion scheduled for January 2016.
