What is the purpose of precast spandrels?* ![]() The functions of precast spandrels in parking garages are numerous. First, they are used to support the floor. They are used as a vehicle barrier to restrain cars, as well as pedestrian guards. Also, they contribute to the architectural expression of the garage, for example through color, texture, and reveals. Reducing the height of these spandrels increases construction costs. If the height of the pedestrian guard is less than 42": high, another railing is required.
