Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Parking Garage - Wilmington, Delaware This structure consists of stone-like features which blend with the hospital campus. The structure was constructed on an existing surface lot, allowing more area for future development. TimHaahs was retained by Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children to serve as the prime design firm and provide architectural and engineering design services for an 1.600 space parking structure. TimHaahs provided a functional design for the open parking structure consisting of a double threaded helix centered between two flat bays. The traffic flow is one way with 9’-0” wide stalls at an angle of 80 degrees. ![]() Special attention was given to the stair towers. The stair tower near the main entrance provides an image similar to the A.I. duPont monument on campus. TimHaahs developed a courtyard at the main elevator stair tower to provide an inviting space for employees, as well as a canopy to cover the existing path between the garage and the hospital. The design site is bounded by an existing wall and the loop road around Lot #1. TimHaahs provided a temporary parking area to provide approximately 700 spaces. This temporary lot was designed to return to grass after construction on the new facility was complete. The existing RV lot will be modified to accommodate several RVs, along with upgrades to RV service. |
