Canal Side Development (Bass Pro Shops) Garage Design - Buffalo, New York TimHaahs is designing a below grade parking structure at the Canal Side Development in Buffalo, working with the prime architect. The three level garage will be located beneath the new Bass Pro Shop retail store, and contains over 500 spaces to serve the development. The Canal Side project presented a number of challenges to the design team. As required for “closed” parking structures, TimHaahs incorporated mechanical ventilation and sprinkler systems within the structure. In addition, the Bass Pro Shop and parking structure are located on the site of an existing auditorium which is being demolished. Coordination with existing foundations and high water table are critical. Further, the parking structure is being designed to coordinate with the structural system of the Bass Pro Shop. The project is being implemented as part of a master plan by Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn (EEK) and the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2011.
