Florida International University Master Planning - Miami, Florida TimHaahs developed a masterplan/ conceptual site plan for the University designed to create a new campus center. The center will build on a “university village” concept, creating a vibrant place for student life and activity. The new “main street” area will be adjacent to the football stadium and Performing Arts Center. Building on structured parking as a foundation, the University plan incorporates all the elements of successful development – student residences, retail, restaurants, and open gathering spaces. When implemented, this area of the campus will become a destination in its own right, drawing not only students but other patrons to enjoy the atmosphere and new retail and restaurant venues. TimHaahs intentionally designed the area to be an active streetscape with appropriate pedestrian scale to ensure that the University’s goals are met and this “university village” becomes a reality. The plan includes over 3,500 spaces of parking to serve the development, over 1,500 student housing units, and 100,000 feet of leasable space for retail establishments. This kind of mixed-use development is critical to support the University’s growth and transform it from a commuter campus to a campus where students live, learn, play, and work. |
