Kent County Courthouse Parking Structure - Kent County, Rhode Island Working with New York City architect, Helmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, TimHaahs designed a new parking structure for the courthouse in Kent County, Rhode Island, a three supported tier facility for 531 cars. TimHaahs designed the 165,000 square foot, open parking structure for a one level future expansion. ![]() TimHaahs provided complete functional, design, architectural detailing, and structural engineering services for the facility. The entire facility is designed and based on self-parking operations and two way traffic flow. The precast structure is a single threaded helix consisting of two bays. A separate judges’ entrance provides access to 27 designated spaces, which required special attention to security considerations. The architectural treatment of the parking garage complements the aesthetic concept of the adjacent judicial complex. The façade incorporates sandblasted architectural precast and stainless steel metal panels. The ground tier wall, shear walls and primary stair and elevator tower have an attractive brick veneer. Exterior faces of stair/elevator tower will be a combination of precast and curtain wall designed to provide an open view and passive security. A covered walkway connecting to the garage was included in the courthouse construction. |
