MBNA America International Headquarters - Wilmington, Delaware MBNA America undertook an ambitious building expansion program to increase facilities at its International Headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. This project included the construction of four office buildings totaling over 1,200,000 square feet and four parking garages providing over 2000 structured parking spaces.  The parking garages are located in the lower levels of each office building and are connected by pedestrian bridges. The parking garages use a combination cast-in-place/precast Filigree concrete system. Each structured floor includes a traffic topping membrane for added long-term durability.  TimHaahs provided functional design, parking control equipment and over-the-shoulder consulting services for each of the parking garages as part of the Homsey Architects team. TimHaahs provided structural design engineering for one freestanding garage containing 915 spaces. Per MBNA’s direction, TimHaahs’ structural design was innovative in that the spacing of the building was dictated by the garages, and not the offices above. This resulted in an efficient parking garage layout using a 40'-0" x 40'-0" column grid layout. This critical infrastructure project provided MBNA with the garages and office space to serve its expanding international headquarters. |
