Reading Fourth and Cherry Streets Parking Expansion - Reading, Pennsylvania TimHaahs performed a feasibility study for a vertical expansion of the existing garage facility at 4th and Cherry Streets in Reading, PA. In 2005, TimHaahs provided full architectural and structural design services for the expansion of the garage. ![]() Originally built in 1971, the façade originally consisted of CMU walls with brick veneer that was eventually replaced with split-faced CMU walls during the restoration work performed by TimHaahs in 1997. The two-level expansion will add approximately 297 spaces to the existing facility, bringing the total number of spaces to 635. The functional flow will remain as a one-way, single helix configuration with one lane in and two lanes out on the Cherry Street side. ![]() With a two-level expansion, retrofitting of the existing foundation is expected to be minimal, and the structural strengthening of the existing beam and column frames will be more manageable than with a larger expansion. The new structure will have the same structural framework as the existing, but would use normal weight concrete for better long term durability. The existing renovated façade will be replicated with the use of upturned cast-in-place concrete bumper walls clad with splitface brick veneer. |
