Temple University – The Liacouras Center Parking Garage - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania As Philadelphia’s largest college, Temple University embarked on an ambitious expansion program that includes both new academic and recreational facilities. Highlighting this effort was the construction of a 10,000 seat multi-purpose convocation center, supported by a state-of-the-art parking structure adjacent to the center. ![]() TimHaahs designed the 1218-space parking structure. As the prime design firm, TimHaahs was responsible for all of the design issues associated with this fast-track project. In addition, TimHaahs designed the facility for a future expansion to 1800 spaces The Liacouras Center Parking Structure presented many difficult design challenges,. The most critical challenge was the need to design and build the 426,000 square foot facility within 13 months. To facilitate this schedule, TimHaahs provided complete design documentation in less than eight weeks. The parking facility uses a double-threaded helix ramping system which allows for rapid one-way vertical travel throughout the facility. The entry/exit portals were designed to easily and quickly accommodate event parking during the evening hours. The parking structure uses a prestressed, precast concrete structural system, and includes a pedestrian bridge linking it to the convocation center. |
