Union Station Parking Expansion Feasibility Study - Washington, D.C. The Union Station Redevelopment Corporation commissioned TimHaahs to explore the feasibility of adding additional parking via horizontal expansion over the existing bus deck. The study focused on redefining the circulation pattern to better serve various user groups and adding additional cashier lanes to decrease exit time. TimHaahs also addressed security issues. ![]() TimHaahs found that approximately 800 spaces could be gained by adding four levels of a cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete structural system, increasing the garage capacity to 2500 spaces. TimHaahs was also retained to design the expansion, renovation, and beautification of the parking garage serving historic Union Station. The expansion added 1000 spaces on five levels of cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete Union Station is Amtrak’s third busiest station, and serves not only that rail service, but Maryland’s Commuter Rail Service and Washington’s Metro Rail system, taxis and intercity buses. The station features many upscale shops, restaurants, and an extensive food court. |
