University Avenue Parking Structure - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania TimHaahs designed the University Avenue parking garage for the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The site, adjacent to the previous location of the Philadelphia Civic Center, is considered a major gateway to both institutions. The facility is ten levels, utilizing a prestressed, precast concrete system, providing 1983 spaces for both institutions. ![]() The exterior façade features a curved stainless steel grille. The design is a double-threaded helix ramping system allowing for rapid one-way vertical travel. To maximize the boundaries of the property, the structure was designed with a four bay, grid column system. In addition, another challenge presented by the site was the need for the structure to be designed around existing Amtrak rail lines, resulting in the curvilinear facility. TimHaahs provided project management, parking consultation, and structural engineering, while Ewing Cole Cherry Brott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, provided architectural design. |
