University of Georgia Parking Conceptual Design & Feasibility - Athens, Georgia The University of Georgia (UGA) selected TimHaahs as prime designer of a new parking structure to serve their Performing Arts (PVAC) facility. In addition, UGA required more commuter parking to serve the ever-expanding institution. The project initially consisted of a new 1,000 space parking structure to be built on a small surface lot adjacent to the PVAC. TimHaahs and UGA determined that the 1,000 space parking deck may not be the best solution for the University with respect to peak hour flow capacity, traffic congestion and pedestrian conflicts. TimHaahs responded by studying additional sites for potential parking improvements. In total, over 12 sites were evaluated and the firm developed multiple planning scenarios for improving both parking and the pedestrian/student experience on campus. As a result of the study, TimHaahs designed two new parking structures for the University. The structures will serve both the PVAC and as well as commuters to the University. |
