Red Rose Transit Breaks Ground on Mixed-Use Parking Project to Serve Historic Lancaster
On Thursday September 3, the Red Rose Transit Authority broke ground on an exciting new mixed-use parking structure project, featuring transit linkages and the new location for the Lancaster Museum of Art (LMA). The 450 space Queen Street parking structure, located in the heart of historic downtown Lancaster, will complement the existing museum and neighborhood aesthetics. Red Rose Transit Authority worked with TimHaahs, the prime design firm, to incorporate the new parking structure into the historic atmosphere of the downtown area. The facility will provide improved access to bus transit for residents and visitors, and three bus bays to serve Red Rose’s transit system. The mixed-use facility will become the new home of the city’s art museum, and provide over 10,000 square feet of exhibit space. The building features a pedestrian connection from the garage to the museum to provide direct access for museum visitors, as well as expanded space for the growing museum collection as well as special exhibitions. The project was celebrated with a ground breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction. Attendees included the David Kilmer, head of the transit authority, Mayor J. Richard Gray, and Stanley I Grand, Executive Director of the LMA as well as representatives from the Lancaster Parking Authority, the state legislature and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. TimHaahs is dedicated to preserving Lancaster’s historic character, and contribute to the city’s unique and artistic vitality. This project marks another milestone in the continued revitalization of this remarkable city. ![]() ![]()
