Reading Parking Authority Celebrates Ground Breaking on New Parking Structure to Serve Convention Center and New Hotel
On September 4th, the Reading Parking Authority broke ground on a new 930 space parking structure in downtown Reading. The garage will serve patrons of the planned adjacent Doubletree Hotel and Convention Center. Located across from the Sovereign Bank Arena, the new precast structure, designed by TimHaahs, will alleviate parking demand resulting from current and future development in the area. The project is a critical step in the redevelopment and revitalization effort in downtown Reading. The addition of the new convention center and hotel will draw more people, and make the area a more vibrant and attractive destination. The garage will serve as vital infrastructure for continued growth in the city, and will serve not only the hotel and convention center, but also local businesses and visitors to the Sovereign Bank Arena. The ground breaking ceremony marked the beginning of construction by Whiting-Turner Construction Company. Attendees included Larry Lee, Executive Director of the Reading Parking Authority, as well as representatives of the Reading Redevelopment Authority, state representatives, and Boscov’s. TimHaahs is proud to serve the city of Reading and the Parking Authority, and to contribute to the city’s renewal and continued revitalization. ![]() ![]()
