Timothy H. Haahs, PE, AIA Addresses United Nations’ Project on Governance, Seoul Initiative Policy Forum
Timothy H. Haahs, PE, AIA, President of Timothy Haahs & Associates, Inc. (TimHaahs), was recently invited by the United Nations Project on Governance to speak at the United Nations in Korea. Hosted by the Ministry of Environment in South Korea, the conference gathered representatives from 37 countries including Russia, China, Africa, and Samoa, as well as numerous countries throughout Southeastern Asia and the Middle East. The forum featured the theme “City Development for Green Growth,” and hosted 150 attendees from a variety of fields. One of only two invited speakers representing the United States, Tim presented “Creating Self-Sustaining Communities through Sustainable Urban Design”, focused on importance of reducing carbon emissions and how traffic and parking relates to city and regional planning, and global challenges. Additional speakers included David M. Koors, AICP, Vice President of the Regional Planning Association based in Stamford, CT. The Seoul Initiative is aimed at addressing major policy issues for Green Growth highlighted in the Ministerial Declaration of MCED 2005 and the Regional Implementation Plan for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific. The Seoul Initiative provides a regional cooperation framework for Green Growth, taking into account the economic, social, cultural and geographical features of the region. It also provides a framework for policy consultations, capacity-building and networking for the promotion of Green Growth at the regional level.
