America’s first zoo is planning for a bright future. One of Philadelphia’s most visited attractions, the Philadelphia Zoo has provided a new gateway for the institution. The project invested in critical parking infrastructure as well as streetscape design and plaza areas. Colorful lighting, architectural glass, and a new wildlife-themed mural brighten this urban district and welcome visitors.

The facility provides upgraded and convenient parking for visitors in a convenient and walkable location. The plaza area provides a gathering place and features colorful and artistic metal animals that lead the way to the zoo. A sloped outdoor pedestrian ramp caters to families with small children and strollers. In line with the zoo’s mission to protect wildlife, the team selected “bird-safe” glass for the stairtower, which is designed to mitigate bird strikes and injuries to local bird populations.

The Philadelphia Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women recognized the facility with its Community Impact Award, and the Pennsylvania Parking Association recognized the facility its highest honor, the Award of Excellence in New Design.
